Lake Tahoe Snowshoeing is the perfect way to explore the mountains and valleys in winter. Snowshoes have studs on the base to grip on firm or icy trails, and are designed in such a way that you walk ‘normally’. Tahoe Snowshoeing allows you to get away from the crowds, and into a magical winter wonderland of silent forests, beautiful mountains and stunning views. On Tahoe snowshoe trips we share our local knowledge about the flora and fauna, local traditions, snow science and how to choose the best route for the conditions. You don’t need any previous experience to snowshoe, just warm clothes, reasonable fitness and a sense of adventure!

Q: What won’t your phone hiking app tell you about while snowshoeing on your own in a high alpine environment? A: Avalanches. In order to protect yourself from an avalanche you need to take an avalanche safety course, preferably both courses. Wandering into the back country with a spare battery and a hiking app is not going to protect you. The Lake Tahoe Basin is Avalanche Country. Avalanches will kill you. Route finding for first time visitors in the Tahoe wilderness can be more challenging than during summer because the hiking trail is not visible under feet of fresh snow. Your tracks can be quickly covered by blowing snow, and even guidebooks, maps and GPS can fail stranding you without options or cell phone coverage in the freezing cold with nothing but pine trees for reference.
- Tahoe guided snowshoe tours enable you to enjoy snowshoeing in the wilderness in safety. We steer clear of avalanche zones and winter terrain traps, keeping you safe to enjoy the dazzling vistas, incredible wildlife and each other’s great company. Avalanches will kill you. Do not risk touring into CNN 2021 Deadliest, Pauly’s Point Avalanche 2020, Castle Peak Avalanche 2019, Castle Peak Avalanche 2018 avalanche terrain with others!
- Tahoe guided snowshoeing tours have been exploring the wilderness for years. We understand how to share the tranquility of the winter forest, helping you experience the smallest details, like how the sunlight blazes through the snow covered trees, calling birds from the mountains to greet you, organizing deep powder snowshoe races and of course, where you can take a break with the most magnificent view of the entire lake to make snow angels.
- Tahoe guided snowshoe tours are organized to be leisurely not competitive. We enjoy trekking quietly and limit our snowshoe tours to children 10 years and up so our experience is punctuated by bird calls and not temper tantrums and the stress of having to carry a child through deep snow.
- Tahoe guided snowshoe tour guides are excellent photographers. We handle all the non-selfie photography so you’ll love your pics in our shareable snowshoe tour private web album Instagram, Facebook and Twitter ready!

“If you’re going to do one thing, schedule a snowshoe tour through this company! My boyfriend and I had never been snowshoeing and I was nervous beforehand. Dave called us the evening prior to be sure we were well prepared as it had snowed a lot the day before. The instruction we were given made it so easy to find the meeting location. Dave had all the gear we needed and made it a very easy experience. The route we took was beautiful and gave us the best views. Dave is experienced and knowledgeable which is what made our experience so great. He knows the area but took us up at our pace which I was thankful for! We were so pleased with our experience and I am sure anyone that goes snowshoeing with this company will have a great time! Dave also takes FABULOUS photos which we love! I was breathing too heavy to document much but he sent us all the photos he took which were awesome. So thankful for this trip and the memories! Thanks, Dave!”
