Are you tired of sitting inside all winter, binge-watching Netflix and scrolling through social media? Do you want to get outside and breathe in some fresh mountain air? Then it’s time to strap on some snowshoes and join a Tahoe Snowshoe Tours professional photographer naturalist on a trek to a one of the many Lake Tahoe scenic overlooks.
Snowshoeing to a Lake Tahoe scenic overlook is the perfect way to get some exercise while taking in the stunning beauty of the Tahoe area. And with a naturalist as your guide, you’ll learn about the area’s natural history and ecology, making your trip even more enriching.
So, what is snowshoeing? It’s a fun, easy-to-learn winter activity that involves strapping on special shoes that distribute your weight over a larger surface area, allowing you to walk on top of the snow without sinking. And unlike skiing or snowboarding, you don’t need any special skills to try it out.
Once you’ve donned your snowshoes and met your naturalist guide, it’s time to hit the trails. Your guide will lead you through a winter wonderland of snow-covered trees, frozen lakes, and crisp, clean air. And if you’re lucky, you may even spot some of the local wildlife, such as rabbits, deer, albino squirrels, or even a majestic bald eagle soaring overhead.
As you safely make your way up to a Lake Tahoe scenic overlook, your naturalist guide will point out interesting features of the local ecology. You’ll learn about the unique adaptations that plants and animals have developed to survive in the harsh winter environment, such as the way that trees shed their leaves to conserve energy, or how some animals hibernate to make it through the long, cold season.
But don’t worry, this isn’t a boring science class. Your naturalist guide has a knack for making even the driest facts come alive with enthusiasm and humor. You’ll find yourself laughing at their jokes and marveling at the wonders of the natural world all around you.
As you climb higher and higher, you’ll feel your heart rate rise and your muscles working. Snowshoeing is a great form of exercise, providing a low-impact, full-body workout that will leave you feeling energized and invigorated. And unlike the crowded gyms or stuffy fitness classes, you’ll be breathing in fresh, clean air and enjoying the peace and quiet of nature.
Finally, you’ll reach the scenic overlook, and it will take your breath away. The panoramic views of the snow-covered mountains and forests are absolutely stunning, and you’ll feel like you’re on top of the world. Your naturalist guide will point out interesting features of the landscape, such as the way that the sunlight reflects off the snow, creating an otherworldly glow.
You’ll have plenty of time to take in the views, snap some photos, and just enjoy the peaceful serenity of the mountains. And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can even try a little snowshoe running, racing down the slopes like a pro athlete.
As you make your way back down the mountain, you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. You’ve challenged yourself physically and mentally, learned something new, and experienced the awe-inspiring beauty of nature.
So, what are you waiting for? Grab some friends or family members, and sign up for a snowshoeing tour with a Tahoe Snowshoe Tours naturalist. You’ll laugh, learn, and experience the magic of winter in Tahoe in a way that you’ll never forget. And who knows, you may even discover a new passion for winter sports and outdoor adventures.

“If you’re going to do one thing, schedule a snowshoe tour through this company! My boyfriend and I had never been snowshoeing and I was nervous beforehand. Dave called us the evening prior to be sure we were well prepared as it had snowed a lot the day before. The instruction we were given made it so easy to find the meeting location. Dave had all the gear we needed and made it a very easy experience. The route we took was beautiful and gave us the best views. Dave is experienced and knowledgeable which is what made our experience so great. He knows the area but took us up at our pace which I was thankful for! We were so pleased with our experience and I am sure anyone that goes snowshoeing with this company will have a great time! Dave also takes FABULOUS photos which we love! I was breathing too heavy to document much but he sent us all the photos he took which were awesome. So thankful for this trip and the memories! Thanks, Dave!”
